The answer to this question will determine how genuine someone really is and also increase your own chances of succeeding at work.

If someone says “we are best at everything” it means they’re desperate for any kind of work and are not specialised in anything.

It doesn’t matter if you’re good at 10 things, where it matters is you being the best at 1 thing.

So if someone asks you the same question and you’re not able to define your specialisation properly, it means you need to do something which will make you excel over the rest.

When I was a kid, there was only one dentist where I lived, so all of us went there. Now, there are so many of them, that only those can do well who specialise at something. So if one has to get RCT done or take a child along, they’ll prefer the best person for that.

It’s better to take only those customers who align with your strengths, rather than those who can expose your weaknesses.

The Indian state of Punjab has thousands of study visa consultants, and Vinay Hari is one of the most popular ones. There are many reasons he’s excelled, one of which is that he has branded himself as a refusal cases expert. Hence, whatever you do, don’t say that I am a superhuman who can do everything. Take a niche and showcase that you’re pretty good at it.

Say you’re a lawyer then depict yourself as being competent in a burning area such as handling false harassment cases against men, incorporating a company with least compliance hassles, etc.

If you have a candy shop then make sure you can advise your customers on what to buy, if they’re clueless and coming to your place for the first time. Tell them about your bestselling items that they might like, especially if they’ve never purchased a candy before.

If you’re a web agency then this is a very vast field, focus on any one specific area which many are not doing. Say Google Adwords, which is on the rise in India, try to get yourself certified in that.

So if you want to succeed in business, then make yourself a specialist in something, that has demand in the market, and let people know about it in an easy to understand language.
